Hey gang. Yes, the MacCast.com site was down today for a few hours. Seems I am getting too popular and the hosting provider suspended my account. They say the sent a warning email, but I never got it. Oh well. Needless to say, we are back up (although, my wallet is a quite a bit lighter). Sorry for the inconvenience.

Sorry to hear that Adam, if there is anything I can do then please, you know how to contact me.

  2. Nick Circosta | Jan 03 2006 - 05:18

    Oh well
    Bandwidth is a funny thing

  3. maccast | Jan 03 2006 - 05:47

Oddly, it wasn’t bandwidth. They have a limit on SQL queries and I seem to had exceeded their restriction.

  4. Joshua | Jan 03 2006 - 06:06

Is it too many SQL queries from the forums or from the main site?

  5. Mitch | Jan 03 2006 - 07:39

    Time for a new host….:p

What is thier limit? Make sure your site is not using perpetual connections where the connection doesn’t close until told to do so. That makes it so that you are limited to the number of people on the site that you are allowed for queries. So if you have a 50 limit, only 50 people could look at the site.

This is as opposed to a regular connect where the connection is only for one file. This means that one page load may spark 3 connections but they are so fast, you can have many more at the same time

A donation through PayPal is forthcoming. I use Powweb.com for my hosting. Maybe their restrictions are not so ahhhh hmmm restrictive. :-) Thanks Adam for letting us know.

    Hi Adam,
I very much appreciate your podcast. As a recent switcher from Pc it has brought me a long way. Are you familiar with a program called “Tinderbox” by Eastgate. I am using this as an outliner now, but I know that it has much deeper potential. Can you talk about this?

I don’t have Pay Pal. What other format can we use to donate to keep the home fires burning at your show?

    Thanks John Bittner

    Justin,
I am actually not having a connection limit issue. The issue is they actually limit the data of the query. My limit was 256Kb per day and I was pulling 908Kb.

    Mitch,
I have already set up a new hosting account and a move is forthcoming. ;)

Likewise, all I can do to help is click on your adverts. You probably get a fraction of a cent for every click.. oh well

    Hey Adam,

If your think out a new host you might want to try Vizaweb.com, these are the people that Leo Laporte has many of his sites hosted with, or you could also try GoDaddy.com, I don’t have a hosting account with them, but I do have a domain register there. They seem to have decent deals on hosting though. Until then I guess donations will be gladly accepted. Also have you heard of Fruitcast.com, podcast advertising service?

    Dave

Adam, did you switch already to a new provider, when will it be? also i guess its a good thing the maccast is getting traffic.

  15. Shuai King | Jan 06 2006 - 02:59

That’s one crappy host you got there. Suggest you get HostGator or Lunarpages… they’re great. Well imo.

I continually have problems getting your great show Adam. My podcast comes and goes and I have already tried deletion and re-subscribing………is it I-tunes? I have an new Ipod video, Imac and Tiger. Your show is too good to miss and I certainly want to come to the “bottom” of this asap.
