Fires and the Maccast

First off… Thank you to all of you have sent emails and messages with your concerns and well wishes. As many of you know San Diego is experiencing the worst wildfires in recorded history. On Sunday evening I was ordered from my home due to forced evacuation because of the Coronado Hills fire. We got out immediately and are safe and sound. We are now with family and just watching things unfold. The original fire that threatened us has been put out, but the larger Witch Creek fire has been moving our way. For now we will be stating put and waiting it out. At this point I am not sure when I will be getting out the next episode, but once this has ended you can be sure that I will get right back to it. The good news is that I will be able to get back to the Maccast. For that I am lucky. Others here have not been as fortunate. My heart and thoughts go out to all my friends and neighbours who have also been impacted by this tradgic event. I also want to give a huge thanks to the firefighters, police, military, emergency services teams, and volunteers. They are the true heroes.

  19. Robert Gottlieb | Oct 24 2007 - 05:58

    Adam,

Glad to hear you are ok. I feel incredibly lucky. I’m your neighbor (formerly from Del Mar, now in Claremont). That move alone saved us from evacuating. Claremont has been doing well considering. Air quality isn’t great, but overall today is better. My family and I are hunkered down in our home.

I agree with the other folks on the list: take a break. It’s stressful enough trying to put a show together. To have to do so after being evacuated is even harder. Maybe one of these days I’ll actually get to meet you in the flesh. In the meantime, take a long deserved break and know that you have an entire audience (local and from distant lands) that support you 100%.

    Take care,

    Robert

    Hi Adam,

My wife and I have been watching from Toronto, Canada with concern the wildfires in California. We feel it makes Hurricane Katrina pale in comparison, due to its on-going threat. Anyways, as a huge fan over the past 3-4 years, I want to encourage you to take time and let your life get back to normal before checking back in with your listeners. If there is anything you need or any support you need, please ask your listener. We are here to help.

My best wishes to you and your family,

    Phil G.

As soon as I realized where the fires were headed, I thought of you and your family. In fact, a quick check of Google Maps made me freak out a bit, but then I checked your site and read this post. I’m glad to hear you’re safe and sound. Take care and our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your loved ones.

  22. Larry | Oct 24 2007 - 06:55

Take care Adam. I too thought about you when I heard where the fires where happening. Glad to know that you and your family are safe. I have the feeling that you must be going bonkers right now because you would rather be readying the Maccast for the up-coming Leopard release. I’m an RN that volunteered at the Red Cross to help the displaced Katrina victims who ended up in Orange County, so I know that it is a really stressful and sad thing for the people who are affected, so I wish you the best.
We will all be waiting patiently for your triumphant return to the podcast.

From one San Diegan to another, stay safe! The podcast can wait. I can still see the flames from the Harris fire from my backyard. ill be Praying for those who lost their homes.

    Dear Adam,

Please take care of yourself and your family. You will all be in my thoughts until this is over. It’s times like these that really put the excitement over the release of a computer operating system into perspective. The weather is changing, so this nightmare will hopefully be over soon.

    Julianne

    Adam,

I’m glad to hear you and your family are safe. I’m one of your neighbors here near Chula Vista. We had a bit of a scare earlier this week also, but thankfully, all is well. Stay safe So Cal!

    Adam,
Just wanted to echo the above sentiments of your listeners. Stay safe and stay well.
My sister and her family recently relocated from Houston, TX to the Ventura, CA area, and she mentioned the other day over the phone that the skies were a deep reddish brown.
She, husband and my niece and nephew are okay as well.
    My best,
    Bruce

    Adam,
A little late (I know), but I hope things are good for you, that you are all safe, and back home as soon as you can.
The pictures we saw on the news were really frightening, puts other things into perspective a great deal.
    Take care, Dave.
