A podcast about all things Macintosh. For Mac geeks, by Mac geeks. A special episode of the Maccast. I sit down with former podcaster and friend of the Maccast Shooby and we discuss the latest version of Office for the Mac, Office 2008. This new version has some great updates and features along with some aggressive pricing for students and home users.

The podcast was good in its general content. However Office for Mac 2008 is totally unreliable for routine use because it crashes without warning.

    Hi.

I from North of Scotland near Inverness and have been a Mac user for about a year now. I ‘ve been a heavy user of Office on PC’s since the days of Word 2.0 and Windows 3.1 I tried Office 2008 for MAc but ended up taking it off last week. Office was the only thing guaranteed to crash the Mac and was so so sloooooow. I have to say I haven’t quite found a suitable alternative for mail merging though. I am secretary of our local Museum’s Friends Association and send a lot of paper to our membership. At present I store their data on Bento and havent quite worked out the best way to get the data to a merge. I seem to alternate between NeoOffice, and iWork08. Office 2008 was graet for doing DTP stuff such as newsletters but the speed of the thing did it for me.

I enjoy listening to your podcast very much.

I preffer Open Office to Office. Primo it’s absolutely free, secundo this magic “create PDF” button – it’s so simple to create an Acrobat reader document!/
