As another alternative for video conversion that I don’t think you have mentioned I have found that Video Monkey is an excellent piece of software and very easy to use. Once the single window is open, a video file (or multiple files) can be dragged to the window and quickly converts video. The software supports multiple extensions and does a swell job. There are several tweaks available and it’s free from http://videomonkey.org.
