Skype finally released the new Mac version 2.5 of its popular software. This version includes:
- The ability to send SMS messages
- The ability to see when your voicemail subscription expires in the “My Account†area.
- An improved video Codec
- Birthday reminders
- Clickable mood messages
- A fix for using Skype with conference calls, TalkShoe or any other system where you have to enter tones from the dial pad
- Some new emoticons
More information is available on the Skype for Mac blog.
Yeah, I got Skype last week and as a midlle ager with very few geek friends it’s like wanting to squirt a Zune. I did call my upstairs neighbor to test it out but maybe I’ll just Skype Adam as he occasionally invites.
I have a similar problem here in the Netherlands, but luckily it’s possible to use Skype-Out, whithout the need for a credit card (through my bank account).
Unfortunately, it is not possible to replace POTS with Skype, because you’re not yet allowed to call the emergency services using Skype. Another disadvantage is that local landlines are still cheaper during the evenings and nights. So, unless you have a lot of techno-able friends, Skype is only of very limited use during the more expensive times of the day.
Well, in a couple of weeks my cable company is offering me a 24 months free subscription service, for which I can keep my old landline telephone number and regular phone device. I wonder how voice-over-cable compares to voice-over-ip, both quality-wise and cost-wise.
Most of my Skype calls these days use SkypeOut to a phone
it just needs shit loads of MHZ and I dont have that.
I have been experiencing some call quality problems since upgrading.
I agree with the other comments that setup is a little confusing. But the phone works great with Skype once it’s setup properly. The range is incredible! I have a three story house and my computer is all the way upstairs jammed in the far corner of the house. The signal is excellent all the way down to the bottom level of my home, and to the other end. I may save some a little confusion by letting you know that the phone takes over as your pc speaker while the phone is in use. So if you end a call, and then sign onto AOL or start playing a song, the audio plays in the phone, and not on the PC speakers. I finally figured out that the phone goes into “sleep” mode 3 minutes after you stop using it, and the audio is restored to the PC speakers.
i have being using skype n till now i have not faced any of its problem..
