What about that MCP-reference at the very end of this episode? Don’t get it!
That is just a last chapter marker added to every podcast so that you have an easy way to skip to the end and get iTunes/iPods to update the play count. I started out using a different term for the end of the show. For example, one show would be “The End” and the next might be “Terminate”. Well I kinda ran out of creative things, so now I am just going to use “End of Line”, which was something that the Master Control Program (MCP) in TRON would always say when it finished speaking. Thus the MCP reference in this podcast.
what i do, when i need to use a test hdd in a macbook, is simply add a piece of packing tape to my test drive, easy.
If you watch the hard drive installation video from the Other World Computing link below, you will see the “tab” is on a piece of metal that is connected to the hard drive with screws. You can reuse this with your new drive.

Love your show, been listening from the start.
Quick problem which I wish you’d correct.
Sometime you play your music several times louder than the rest of the show. So, I’m out walking lisening to your show on my ipod and all of a sudden this music blasts into my eardrums. My quickest reaction is usually to pull the earbuds out of my ears, then I have to strugle to find my ipod in my shirt pocket, beneath my coat to adjust the volume. A good example of this was: “Not your enemy” by Megaphone on your Feb. 9th podcast.
A real ear blaster!!
You used to do this with your opening theme music, but I’m glad to report that you seem to have lowered the volume of that, so that now it’s roughly the same volume as your voice.
Other than this, I hope constructive criticism, I love your show, it’s concise & to the point with and the news and your opinions. Keep up the great work.

I have to agree with Dr. Lawrence, what I have notice is that I listen to podcast at a different volume that I listen to music and when I’m listening to you I put up the volume and when any kind of music pops up I have to lower the volume immediately.
I love your show, you are a great help to all of us. Hopefully something can be done in regards to this.

I replaced the drive in my MacBook and I can affirm that the tab is on a seperate piece, not on the hard drive itself. Its like a piece of thick aluminum foil. It didn’t look too sturdy but it’s tough enough to be put on another drive and be reused. You can see the metal part in this document from Apple describing the procedure (which is very easy by the way):

I hope Apple goes all flash with their Ipods it would make them more realiable like the Nano and Shuffle (80Gb might be restrictive to flash memory at this point though). I have an 80Gb 5.5G Ipod for video ( like The Traveling Morans and Command N) and I just bought a 2G Shuffle (its green :-) which is great for the Maccast and TWiT where I just need audio and don’t want to lug around my big Ipod.

i went to download dashcode, after hearing about it. I was interested to see the following:
“This beta release has been scaled back to be compatible with Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) in order to get feedback from a broad range of users. We appreciate your participation in this beta program and welcome your feedback about bugs fixes and enhancements that would make developing Dashboard widgets even more fun and productive.
Dashcode will only be released officially as part of Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard).
This beta release will cease to function on July 15, 2007. ”
Does this mean we’re waiting until June for Leopard?

No. It just means Apple gave themselves some breathing room in case the slip the ship date for Leopard. Good news is we can be pretty sure the release will be no later than that date and likely much earlier.
