RE: Duplicate files
I have used a freeware app called Mr. Clean very successfully to free up over 4GB of space on my PB. I had over 1600 duplicate files from upgrading to my current machine and not being smart about moving the old data over (i.e. doing bits at a time and not keeing track). I ran across this in this post which mentions solutions for another platform also.
I was so poor I couldn’t even pay attention. :-)

Great show as usual, I was listening to you talk about the lack of new products. I really think Apple inc needs to be Apple Computer again. Like I have said in the past I sure hope the last real computer innovation we see isn’t the mag-safe AC adapter. Only time will tell if they have turned down the right path. But the cell phone business is tough, Phones have to be discounted or people just won’t get them. I think by the end of this year the I phone (if FCC approved) will be in the $200 area with 50 to 100 dollar rebates.
As an alternative to iPhoto I would like to recommend GraphicConverter (25,– EUR). I use it every day.
It has a photo browser and lets you organize your photos in different ways on importing from the camera.
You can find GraphicConverter at http://www.lemkesoft.de/
I highly recommend File Buddy ($39 US) for searching for duplicate files. It provides a way to search for duplicates based on data forks or many different combinations of criteria. Some other cleaning features include searching for empty folders, orphaned files, check aliases and erasing unused space. It is not a simple push button application. It is an advanced tool for advanced users. It also provides permission and owner listing options. Please visit http://www.skytag.com/filebuddy/en/9/index.html to see a better list of its features.
I have used File Buddy since System 6 and the author has kept it up to date with every version of the Mac System. I don’t upgrade my Mac OS unless File Buddy supports it.
