Congrats Adam on a great 200th show and for staying the course!

    You are a star ;-)

Ps Paparazzi is a great free screen grab utility that i have used for over a year now.

Congrats on 200! I love the show. I was getting nervous a few months back when you started the new job. Thought you might disappear. Glad the show is as strong as ever.

I tried to return my defective ipod Touch today at the Fashion Valley apple store and they REFUSED to let me return it and even going as far as denying that it even was defective! i’m not one for confrontation so i just left disappointed. I’ll try again some other day. BOO APPLE.

Congrats on your 200th MacCast, Adam. Yours and Fr. R’s Catholic Insider were the first two I subscribed to when iTunes started hosting podcasts, and you’re both still going strong.

I agree with Simon about Paparazzi! (http://www.derailer.org/paparazzi/), which I’ve used from time to time for over a year. I think you might have recommended it once upon a time. (I know, it’s hard to remember everything.)

    Just one question:
Has anybody else had trouble with the last couple iTunes upgrades giving their shuffle fits?

I use Paparazzi for all my web screenshots. Simply type in a URL, hit Capture then save it.

It’s free and it captures the entire page that you type in. No stitching multiple images together.

Congrats on the 200 up Adam. Looking forward to many, many more.

I’d also add my vote to Paparazzi as well. Great app for website screen capture.

Congrats Adam on the 200th episode

I don’t thing the iPhone price in the UK was surprising, it is the same cost as the 16Gb iPod Touch.

When you remove our 17.5% vat, it is £229, which is $460ish – so it’s in a similar range as the US cost – close enough not to warrant a price drop in the same way as happened in the US. Over time it will probably go down – maybe if a 16gb model comes out, but for now I think it is an obvious price-point based on the iPod line pricing.

    Cheers

I could not believe my ears when I heard Adam recommend the laptop base as a solution to fix heat issues in the Macbook pro!!! So he is suggesting that we spend $300 to solve a known problem which has existed on the Mac for sometime. That’s taking fanboyism one step further or maybe one step too far.

Using a Mac in a Windows environment is something that more and more switchers must be encountering, but you see relatively little in Mac publications on the subject. I switched to Mac for home use in about 2000 and to Mac at work in about 2002. We’re a small company with outside tech support, so I have to solve most of my interface problems myself (primarily so I don’t get Windows backlash).

That said, I used Entourage as my email client from the beginning until about 2 weeks ago. I asked our tech guys what the information I needed to configure it, but it’s always worked. Over several years, things I’ve done without, like access to public folders and calendar synching began to work. I think it has been the result of both Microsoft Office upgrades and enhancements to OSX. I now have close to the functionality of a Windows machine (PowerBook G4). I use Virtual PC for the one database I have to access in the Windows world, which is in Access.

My compatibility is good enough that I can access our server-based files and use Entourage on the road via VPN. The OSX VPN stopped working when we made some change in our hardware, but the tech guys installed the CISCO VPN for Mac, and it works far better than what I had before. For instance, when I had a VPN tunnel, I couldn’t otherwise access the web. With the Cisco client, I can do both.

I had experimented with Mail and Address Book, but until recently, Entourage had better functionality. The iPhone changed that. Since it’s much easier to synch with the Apple products, I’ve switched and have encountered no problems. They work well with Exhange. Is Exchange configured for IMAP? Apparently not, because our IT guys have offered to do it (and quoted a price). I expect I will pursue this and would like to know about other Mac users’ experiences.
