Oh the blog i have had the disk on my iPod fail twice. but once the same thing happened as the guy who asked the question. On the apple site there is one more thing listed you should try before you play with disk utitlty. There is instructions to put the ipod into Target Disk Mode. and that did work for me. then later my pod was so badly screwd that i couldn’t get it into disk mode and my powerbook wouldn’t recongnize it. Hope that helps. I can give you this in audio if you want.
To the listener who wanted to hear what he was recording for his Podcast, there is a free app out there simply called “Audio Recorder” that will allow you to monitor what you are recording. Very simple, yet effective interface and works great – we’ve been using it with an iBook at our church to record the services and burn them to CD for a few months now.

Just so you know, the “What U hear” function that the person was in reference too, was a feature of his Sound Blaster Live card. Not a feature in Windows. Nor would I expect this to be a feature built into OSX. Maybe, in the future…who knows.
As far as apps that would do this in OSX, I don’t know since I use Logic Pro and DP. If I wanted to do a Podcast, I have all the tools I need. Sorry.
I’ve been using this freeware product. It allows you to make all sound the computer outputs redirected as an input to the computer. With garage band you can monitor the output while recording.
