Correction: I said the new ATI Radeon 9550 did not support Core Image. Apparently I had read wrong information and several listeners pointed out the fact that the 9550 DOES support Core Image. Carry on.
I listened to today’s show from a high-elevation vineyard overlooking Mt. Hood. What a moment it was! The awesome beauty of the Oregon countryside plus the geeky goodness of the MacCast!
As for podcasts not being mainstream, this is very true. I think it’ll follow an email growth curve – in the beginning it’ll be a nerdy few who podcast, but in the next year or two, it’s going to explode. This is one thing that isn’t going to fizzle out. It will more likely reach critical mass and then will morph into something else as technology and smart ideas advance.
About the XBRITE screens, I’m of the opinion that the color richness is vastly improved by the glassy surface on newer Sony and Dell laptops.
It really has little or nothing to do with the light tubes illuminating LCD screens. Any glossy/glassy/shiny plastic film placed directly on an LCD screen will enhance the image greatly.
When I was waiting in line for the OSX Tiger release, a guy next to me had a 15″ Powerbook with a plastic film on his screen. It looked 100 times better and brighter than the screen looked a la carte.
You should test it out and see how neat it is.
Re the Mac Minis without modems (joining the PowerMac G5s, I believe): there’s another issue. Without a modem, it’s harder to send and receive faxes. Even in these days of widespread broadband internet, there are plenty of situations requiring faxes.
Correction for your July 29th, 2005 Podcast:
The new iBooks using the ATI Radeon 9550 _DO_ support Core Image. This is noted on Apple’s website – http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/coreimage/.
Hah nevermind did not see your correction before scrolling down to the comments. ;)

Re Windows Media Player “unable to create tmp file”. I had a similar problem with playing files and after a web search I discovered that WMP for Mac does not handle it when your machine name has an accent character in it. (In my case its preferences file had “libert?” when my computer’s name has an accented a in it: “libert`a”). Unfortunately I had to rename my machine’s name and reinstall WMP, but that did solve the problem.
I also have the -36 problem with syncing my iPod Photo with iPhoto. My workaround is to change my iPod preference for Photos to sync only with selected photo folders. I then choose every folder except the library. As all my photos are in folders, they are all synced. I infer that the problem is with syncing the library.
Thanks for the great show,
Sander
I’m a switcher too. I love my iBook and I like your show. I’m here to stay.
“My job is on windows (sad but true), but my life is on Mac”.
Adam,
I couldn’t download it either. It seems to be a problem with the libsyn server.
I am using RSS Radio for podcast aggregation.
Re the question about using a DV camcorder on ichat. It works fine, BUT, it automatically cuts itself off after 5 minutes if you are not recording. There seems to be no way to override this on the camera- Canon ZR70MC Digital Camcorder. If anyone know of a way to bypass the automatic shutoff, I would sure like to know.
Thanks
