Well. It looks like Apple does have some announcement up its sleeve. There is a lot of speculation on the Web that it will be the video iPod. The announcement they sent out (see image) does seem to be a theatre curtian, so maybe. They also could finally announce those new PowerMacs or PowerBooks. Stay tuned.
Cmon apple, please a video ipod. the only ipod i have is a suffle, and i love it dont get me wrong. The only reason i have been holding off getting one is that video is what i need. Film is my thing and final cut is the way to go, but im dreading to have a good way to show my videos. i dont want anything that plays full length features, but if this is it, id have it the next day. Apple if your listening, the only way your getting me to buy an ipod is if you make the ability of moving pictures, preferably easy syncing with final cut pro.
Curtains sometimes indicate the end of something ;) Wait, no, that’s the mob.
Looking forward to whatever it is :)
Not sure what it could be, but I don’t think that Apple would go out of their way to bring us new Powerbooks and Powermacs. Those could be introduced any day at any time.
I think it has to be something new. If it isn’t the video ipod (pictures floating around already) then it has to be something totally new to ramp up the holiday shopping.
Any guesses?
My newly ordered Powerbook is apparently scheduled to arrive at my door on the 11th. It’s be quite funny if this announcement turns out to be regarding new Powerbooks.
Maybe I should keep it in the packaging until the 12th so I can return it, should it turn out to be outdated the day after I buy it.
Incidentally, exactly the same thing happened when I bought my iPod last year. Literally a day later, the RRP’s dropped by a fair bit, making the iPod photo roughly the same price as the 4G iPod I’d just bought.
Take a closer look at the add. apple is really leading us on and giving some big clues. the background for most of the announcements and other adds are B&W, common apple design. Dont you think when they put a red velvet curton in there is suggests that something is different. Maybe movie/film/video related…?
If not an ipod with video, a new version of quicktime maybe with TV capabilities, then what is it? Thinking about how it was just oh, less than a month ago the nano busted out, is apple really going to come out with another. That seems quite risky, could take away from nano sales. Heck, i bet its just ganna be some crappy new designer nano cases. Im still hoping for video ipod, dont let me down apple.
ThinkSecret says its the Macs, but as jon says I’m inclined to think they’re might be something audio in there too.
I may be wrong, but Apple introduces new computers on any day now and doesn’t need a special event to update them. To go out of their way and say ‘one more thing’, sounds like a waste of time to show updated powerbooks and powermacs. Don’t you think?
I think video from ITMS combined with Airport Express A/V makes more sense at this time … to get the infrastructure in place for people to download video content to their computer which they can easily route to their TV’s. A video iPod only would work if you could hook it to your TV as well.
This makes more sense to me than a ‘media centre’ that many have speculated on … it would be cheaper and not replicate the computer you already have. I also think an ITMS video/Airport Express A/V combination would be a pre-emptive strike against M$ for living room control (which they are trying to make happen with the Xbox 360).
I think Seth (#5) is on to something. Personally, I think the movie screen image may mean that a new widescreen 16×9 version of the Powerbook may be forthcoming (like a 12″ Pbook with widescreen). This would not only be a slightly updated Pbook (processor speed), but a totally revamped look.
The videoPod concept would be neat, but I think Apple investing major time & money into a handheld video/music player is a bit flimsy.
I believe Apple launced Quicktime TV back in 1999 … maybe it is being reborn?
One more thing?
It’s either ipod related otherwise it could be something totally innovative and new.
No one will watch videos on a screen as small as the ipods, not me anyway, unless there is video out and an enormous hard drive in it.
Super small HDs will survive should portable video become a wave of the future.
Just found this link about the BBC blowing the secret. Yes a video iPod will be unveiled
http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000067061993/
it HAS to be something new
Firstly Apple have been working on there switch to intel and have been enforcing it.. they would not call all these people 4 weeks after nano to anounce more PPC products (however they could do this if they have more things to show)
Secondly it has to be something inovative and complelty different..in reality.. anything :P
Thirdy we have to look at this with logic.. apple called everybody and anounced the nano.. now its calling them all back.. HOWEVER its no to the same place is it.. its the san jose.. so from what i know INTEL HQ is in San Jose.. however this could mean nothing as Last years Photo ipod was launced at the same thereter…
Lastly Symbolism… apple released the Photo at that thearter.. and they could go back there for something jsut as big because from what i know its a bigger thearte..
Video ipod?? Maybe.. but who really knows…
Clue: Jobs said that 2005 was the year of HD.. Quicktime with H.264 has been out now and the year is allmost up… if he wants more Year of the HD they now would be the time to do it
It can be anything :)
if i had to put money … i would put it on something COMPLELTY new.. and i mean COMPLELETY.. New apple line of some kind
i absolutly agree with Alex, its either the video iPod in combination, with easy access to TV, which Steve will use to distroy his own arguments agains a video iPod, or something really new and inovative, I really doubt we will have new PowerBooks or anything PC wise.
Especially the curtain since it looks like a movietheatre makes me think movies.
Oh I just hope if its really the vPod Steve signed a deal with Hollywood so we can download movies, and maybe even new ones.
I would just love him for that and get a vPod asap.
You may have noticed, the iTunes Music Store “music video” section is rarely being updated now. They could be announcing an iTunes Video Store to coincide with whatever they are unveiling…
Hey guys,
I’m from the UK!!
Great show Adam
Anyway, many sites have reported a new iPod, but the say for sure that it won’t be the video iPod we all want
I don’t see the point in this though, as I’d of thought they’d let the Nano settle in first
Hopefully we’ll see the updated 970mp chipped PowerMacs on the 12th
Take care all
Ash, from the UK
:)
Its the new powermac with duel 3.0 g5 with duel core
I bet it will be a new 5th gen iPod with video ability. It will probably be slightly thinner than the current iPod (think nano) so it will have a smaller (nano) click wheel thus allowing the screen to be larger. I’m just hoping for a way to hook it up to my TV. I wouldn’t be suprised to hear Apple announce a music video section in the iTMS to help promote it.
I don’t think that they will release a video version as Steve said people didn’t want it, and I don’t think Apple is ready.
ok obviously apple is going to put tv capabilities. they would be pretty foolish if they dont even include that in the box. Firewire would be the way to go.
if its the next gen, maybe they should think about bluetooth. think about. you got some new songs and without even plugging in, as long as your computer is in the same room, bam.
Getting back to the video ipod, it would be a good idea for them to introduce, but why now? My guess is this, the nano was ready by september and apple needed something new to please everyone, at the same time the video ipod was still being worked at, thinking they would be ready for the announcement with the nano. It would make sence to pull out two new ipods with completely different features and compacities appealing to different people. The date came and it was down to the wire for the video team, they had no choice but not to come out.
So now they are finished and making up for lost time by going to a theatre (somewhere computers are logicly announced at, forget about it people) and will bust out the next gen ipods, hopefully getting rid of the U2 nonsense. Now dont bust my chops, i just made that up off the top of my head but i think it would make sence.
Yes, TV enabled quicktime did come out a while ago when i was still on a windows and surprisingly it was entertaining. Out of the 10 channels, the quality even on a windows was great, until one by one they left. i wouldnt be surprized on apple reanoucing that but they would defiantly have to back it up with a video ipod.
When the the ipod video comes out, and this thing will come out, space shouldnt be a problem, if they can stuff a whole frature film and extra features into a 4 gig dvd, imagine the possibilities with a 60 gig ipod.
But as i said in a previous coment, the reason i need this ipod video is to preview and show my own films. I work for a youth produced TV show and my shorts are mostly 1-10 minutes and the way i show my films these days is dumping an edited video from final cut pro 5 back on mini dv and showing it strait from the camera. The screen is fine at about 2 inches and i wouldnt mind smaller considering id be carrying something in my pocket (ipod), rather than in a bulky case (camera) plus all the rewinding and fast fowarding that is required. There would be other practical uses for a ipod video, does anyone else agree?
Its funny how our apple shaped brains react when a a multibillion dollar company declares a party. Rock on Apple and lets keep this ball rolling.
My bf works for apple… you didn’t hear it from me, but it is a video iPod.
ThinkSecret said new 80GB iPods with NO video features. they also saidnew 940MP PowerMacs and maybe PowerBooks I think they will release HD Televisions or Maybe new Cinema Displays
nice
@ applegrrrl
what’s the powermac spec’s please!
@ applegrrrl
any idea of specs of the video ipod??
60 gb as far as I know. Harajuku seems to know more than the avg. bear fyi.
I do not think I will make it to Wednesday.
I doubt it’s going to be just a small PowerBook and/or PowerMac update. Otherwise, they’d just put them up on the web site with nary an announcement.
It has to be something dramatic. Or at the very least, semi-dramatic. 40 and 80 GB iPod’s that play music videos, but in a similar form factor to the current full sized iPod’s? (just slightly updated)?
How about this?
We wait until Oct 12 and see what happens.
I predicted the nano 6 months ago, so I’m feeling pretty confident about this next announcement.
It will be either;
1. Video iPod – or at least an iPod (or attachement for one) that will allow video to be played from the iPod to a TV
2. Tablet Mac – something along the lines of the HP TC1100 (the only TRUE tablet PC) running OS/X – I’d buy it tomorrow.
3. iPod with a built-in camera (60Gb iPod with a 2Mp camera capable of still & video with audio).
4. Video sales through the Apple Music Store.
If I’m wrong, I will flagellate myself with a Windows XP manual !
It Could possibly Be A Video iPod because of the fact Steve Jobs showed in his keynote that the next competitor to the iPod is the PSP. So if the iPod gets a facelift similar to the PSP i Think it will be worth it for Apple to push on through to video.
“One more thing”
Steve Jobs is retiring.
Nice one Thedot, how about just his blue jeans.
Hey. I know there’s usually a webcast of these special events on the Apple site, but how soon after do they appear? Is there anywhere to watch it live? If not, what website/blog should I be checking out to see the announcement real-time? Thanks.
