Hi Adam, Regarding the “no applecare in FL or WY” question, I did a google search while listening to the show and found an quick explanation:
As to the Florida/Wyoming question, due to regulations in both of those states, only insurance agencies can offer “extended warranty” plans unless the buyer has a federal tax ID in which case they can purchase. AppleCare does not meet those requirements therefore it cannot be sold to consumers without a federal tax ID

This was my first podcast and I really enjoyed it. Anyway, I saw this link re Florda warranty. http://macslash.org/article.pl?sid=03/09/09/1232257 Apparently, Florida law has some requirements for warranty service providers which Apple does not comply with (part of strong consumer protection laws in Florida meant to protect older citizens from being taken advantage of). Don’t know about Wyoming.

Hey–I’ve just starting listening to your podcast–you’ve done a great job!
I disagree with you on Camino–I find the biggest reason to use FireFox vs. Mozilla or any other Mozilla based browser like Camino is mostly a political statement. It’s not micro$oft, and it has the best chance of beating IE. Plus, you can simply visit the FF site, and there are plenty of themes that let you change the look of Firefox. Check out Saferfox Xpanded–Looks very much like safari.
You asked on the show about AppleCare and Florida.

Basically it is Florida’s laws trying to protect against insurance fraud tht are blocking Apple from selling AppleCare to individuals. But they are allowed to sell to businesses

With regard to the browser performance issue, there is a build of Firefox that is optimized for G5 processors which is much faster than the standard Firefox build. It is available here: http://www.beatnikpad.com/archives/2005/03/24/firefox102
Just listened to the MacCast for the first time last night. I’m liking it. It’s good to know there are other Mac Geeks out there. I’m giving Camino a try after listening to the show. So far it’s not too bad, although sometimes it just feels a little bit slower than it should be.
May I suggest that Darrell’s Guide consider offering only one tip per show? Seems like that would strike a better balance between new users (who would probably be happy to try out one new trick per show) and power users (like myself, who will want to fast forward through any newbie tips longer than a minute or so).
Just my $0.02 cents! Keep up the great work!
Regarding the question about speeding up browsers:
There’s a killer tweak for Firefox right here that will dramatically speed up page loading
Also, the indispensible Mac utility Cocktail includes a setting for speeding up Safari. Just go to Interface > Safari and check the box for “Decrease page loading times”.

In response to Darell’s Guide, the plan is to only have this segment once a week and I have asked Darrell to keep it at 2 mins. or less. I know for power users like us it may not always be relevent, but you might be suprised. I am always finding out things from new users that I never knew before.
Regarding stuff like Darell’s Guide… I think Adam has a strong enough “radio presence” that this type of segment comes off as amateurish. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy feedback and questions from listeners, but the idea of Darell’s Guide becoming a recurring segment doesn’t sit well with me. If he wants to be on a weekly or daily podcast, he can start his own.
I suppose it’s just that I like the format the way it is. I’m stubborn that way.
I’m not really interested in hearing Darrell every week. If he has something to offer, let him start his own podcast, and mention it and link to it. That way listeners to the MacCast will have a choice wether to go there or not. Don’t dilute your show by trying to be all things to all people. Just my 2 cents.
I do not have a problem ending my involvement in the show, if that is the popular request. As a listner of the MacCast and a new switcher, I did not feel there was enough information aimed at new switchers, which is how I came to contact Adam.
So if Adam feels it is best I do not continue to provide tips for newbies like me, I will understand and not have any hard feelings. Just let me know Adam!
By the way, there is nothing in it for me. I do not have a show I am plugging or selling equipment and accessories. I was just trying to help the “movement” to Apple.
Did I miss something or has this show been changed to The MacCast for Power Users? You power users are so self-centered you complain about a 2 minute tip aimed to help new Mac users love and learn about the Mac. Give it a rest. Keep on giving those tips Darrell. If us newbies have to listen to 10 minutes of power user stuff, they can tough out a whole 2 minutes. Let this be a show for all Mac users Adam.
