Well I am glad there are people out there who are willing to risk destroying a state of the art Mac laptop just so geeks like me can drool over their technologically advanced guts. I just hope for this MacBook there is life after death.

Well that is one way to blow an advertising budget. This new ad for Tekserve, an independent Apple reseller in New York, used over $60,000 worth of iPods toppling domino style to make their point. I wonder if those had any screen protection? For those of you in the area the ads will be running on the giant Madison Square Garden LED displays at 33rd Street & 7th Avenue, from May 1st through July 30th.

Congrats Apple! Thanks for 30 great years. And for those who don’t know, that “other” guy is Ronald Wayne, Apple’s 3rd founder.
There is a really cool web site on Apple.com that a listener turned me on to and I can’t believe I had never seen it before. The Apple Student Gallery site features animations, films, photos and music from students around the world. Any student can submit their material for inclusion and I can’t believe this site is not more well known. The site offers the ability to rate the content and share it with others and some of the stuff on there is really interesting. If you have a moment and want to see what the youth of the world is up to on their Macs, I would encourage you to check it out.
Well I of course have always been a big fan on Nitrozac and Snaggy’s Joy of Tech and I love Penny-Arcade and PvP. So, how is it I could have missed this one. AppleGeeks looks incredible. It is amazing how the Internet is freeing media and content creators in all genres to get their work out to the masses. Web Comics, Podcasts, Blogs, Video. I love this stuff. I am sure there are many other web-based Geek comics out there, so if you get a chance head over to this forum thread and post your favs.
I personally can’t watch all those surgery shows on Discovery Health Channel. Seeing human innards makes my stomach turn. Seeing this is almost worse. The folks over at Other World Computing (OWC) have already performed surgery on a new 15″ MacBook Pro. It’s cool to see, but at the same time a bit horrifying. The good news is I already read on MacDevCenter that this model is easier to dissect than the current PowerBook. That should make things like future hard drive upgrades a bit nicer. I just hope the folks at OWC got this one put back together and working.
Just to prove my point that iPods docks are everywhere, I am going to be trying to post stories on all the ways companies are integrating iPods into their products. From cars, to toilets, to clothing, iPod docks are everywhere. Todays dock is one from a New Zealand bed maker and is being billed as “The Worlds Most Comfortable iPod Dock”. This bed is made from New Zealand Rimu with aluminum detailing and is called the Pause. Made by Design Mobel, this bed is completely customizable and features traditional options like side lamps and storage trays, but what makes it totally unique is its ability to accommodate an universal iPod dock and BOSE speaker system. How’s that for true Mac geek comfort?

Thanks to listener Howard for sending this one in.
This web site was featured on Command-N and when I took a look I thought it was definitely worth sharing. Mike Davidson, the CEO of Newsvine, recently ran a contest on his blog asking people to submit movie posters featuring our favorite CEO Steve Jobs. The results are pretty funny. There are a lot of creative and talented people out there, some with pretty twisted senses of humor.

So how many of you are like me and have imported music into their iTunes library (while not connected to the Internet) and ended up with names like “Track 1”, “Track 2”, etc.? Personally, I am just too lazy to go track down the original CD and look on the back or in the liner notes to get the info. Now, I have a couple of those music loving friends who can name a track in an instant after hearing it, but they never seem to be around when I want to update the ID3 tags on my tunes, strange. Anyway, it turns out now I don’t need them thanks to an app called Tunatic. This app works just like your music loving, know-it-all friend. It listens to the track played from any source into your Macs mic, captures its musical “signature” and then goes out to an on-line database and returns the artist and song title information. It is pretty amazing. I wish it also had an option to just listen to the audio going to my Macs speaker, but because it uses the mic you have the advantage of letting listen to external audio sources like the radio or your TV. Think, playback the audio from that commercial on your TiVo that has the song you can’t seem to pinpoint. I tried it with several tracks played in iTunes into my iBooks built in mic and it returned the correct information every time. I am sure it will not always be 100% accurate, but for the convenience this app is staying in my iTunes utility belt.
Update: Here is another app that does a similar function iEatBrainz. This one listens to the song playing directly from iTunes, no mic required.
