* Finally an Apple mouse with a right button, well sort of. Still a single button, but can detect which side of the mouse was pressed.

wedge HP discontinues iPod sales

* HP will stop selling iPods by the end of September.

* HP-branded iPods make up about 5 percent of the total sales

* As part of their agreement with Apple, they will be unable to produce their own portable music product until August 2006.

wedge Apple using DRM to prevent OS X Intel on non-Apple hardware

* Apple has applied the Trusted Computing Platform Alliance (TCPA) DRM technology using an Infineon 1.1 chip to prevent installation on non Apple Boxes.

* Controversial technology, may remember Microsoft Palladium from a few years ago. Basically can prevent certain parts of the software from running unless authorized.

wedge Judge stops Georgia schools purchase of 63,000 iBooks

* Apple announced a tentative deal with the Cobb County School District in Georgia for iBooks for each teacher, middle and high school student

* The deal was approved by the school board, but opposed after voter alleged they were not properly informed that a 1% increase in sales tax would go to help fund the purchases.

* A judge agreed and has stopped the purchase. The school board may appeal the ruling, but it is unlikely.

wedge Received great feedback on different iBooks school programs and most students/ teachers say pretty positive things about them.

* Seems like cables and ports can also cause issues. Try connecting to a different port (specifically the back and not front ports), or directly to the computer not via a hub.

* Try switching from Firewire to USB or vice versa.

* Having an iSight and the iPod plugged in at the same time may cause -36 error

wedge Restrictive software authentication schemes

* Listener Richard is having issue with Adobe CS's new authentication process.

* After having to do a reformat and install, he can no longer install Photoshop CS as he has reached the 2 install limit. Now needs to contact them by phone, but it must be between 9:00 AM and 5:30 PM and he must be at his computer.

* We are now having to inconvenience those who purchase software legally to fight the pirates.

wedge How to uninstall Mac applications

* Recent switcher Joushua was thinking just deleting was too easy and wondering if Macs had uninstallers like PCs

* Some apps do have uninstallers, usually found by re-running the installer

* Most you just trash. You can see all an applications files by command-clicking (right-clicking) and selecting 'Show Package Contents'

* May also want to trash the preference file (plist). A small XML file found in the ~/Library/Preferences folder
