Lynda.com
- lynda.com helps you learn and keep-up-to-date with your software, pick up brand-new skills, or explore new hobbies with easy to follow video tutorials.
- They have over 2,400 courses taught by industry experts and more added weekly
- And these are high quality videos with great production value. Great audio, great video, and screencasts you can actually see.
- The courses also cover all skill levels, whether your an advanced user wanting to expand your skills or a novice wanting to get up to speed on a new app.
- I’ve used Lynda.com to learn new web development skill and brush up on my techniques. I also find inspiration in some of their creative and workflow videos.
- Another thing I really like is how structured the videos are.
- Plus they are broken down into sections and you can track your progress.
- So you can go straight through a course or jump in for a bit at a time and then come back.
- They also have a mobile app for your Apple and Android devices, so you can learn anytime/anywhere.
- The premium plans also let you download project files and practice along with the instructor.
- One low monthly price of $25 gives you unlimited access to the entire lynda.com library
- Maccast listeners also can get a free trial with access to the entire course library. Just go to lynda.com/maccast (L-Y-N-D-A.com/maccast) to try it out. You’re gonna love it.
The event
- Live stream was a disaster for the first 30 minutes
- Stream wouldn’t stay up
- Inaccessible from AppleTV, etc.
- Chinese audio
- Cult of Mac reports that a “Streaming expert” says JavaScript and JSON code for updating the live Twitter feed on the page might be to blame, not server load.
- Code for Twitter updates caused constant refreshing on the page (every few milliseconds), overloading the page
- It also meant the page couldn’t be cached, or wasn’t.
- All those requests artificially forced the player to degrade the quality of the video, dropping it down to a lower bitrate.
- Akami served the video feed, but because it was embedded on the page with the JSON caching wasn’t possible.
- It also looks like Amazon S3 storage wasn’t configured to be optimized, so no edge network benefits.
- The thing is, it doesn’t explain why Apple TVs had issues and also how it was “fixed” while the JSOn remained on the page.
- Opening video looked like it was inspired by OK Go’s latest video
- Continuous panning shot using visual and perspective tricks to reveal text.
- Today OK Go actually accused Apple of stealing the concept, which they had pitched to Apple to try and get a partnership
- Apple said no and they did it on their own with a production company
- Apple hired that same production company to shoot the intro video.
