USD files have actually been around since the early days of Pixar (A Bugs Life)
It's actually a "container" file.
The "Z" comes in because the file format is a "zero compression" zip file of existing USD files, according to Pixar.
The USD file acts as a "scene" for the rest of the contained assets.
A usdz file is read-only.
The file is not allowed to access other files or assets external to it
It can contain multiple assets, like higher resolution assets, but if a device doesn't need them they won't impact the performance of the rendering at all.
Adobe announced tools to let you create and edit USDZ files.
They will unpack and extract the individual parts to allow for this.

They are compatible with GitHub Flavored Markdown fenced code blocks, and they support syntax highlighting for over 40 programming languages, both in the editor and in export!
In the goals you can now set daily writing goals based on characters or words. You'll get a circular symbol to visualize your progress and it resets daily. You can monitor your progress over time and even export the data to CSV. A great motivator.
You have always been able to set a goal for desired length or reading time of text and then track your progress, but now you can now also set a deadline. Ulysses will then calculate the number of words that need to be written per day in order to reach that goal.
Finally, you can now add custom colors to keywords making them easier to spot in the library.
Of course these are in addition to all the great features, like iCloud sync'ing, organizational tools like nested groups, and the distraction-free writing environment, that make Ulysses one of the best apps for writers.
